Washington County 2025 Campus Improvement – Micropiles in Low Head Room/Limited Access Environment
Member cost: $.00
Nonmember cost: $.00
To meet future needs, Washington County undertook expansion and upgrading of their government facilities with a three-story addition to the existing Law Enforcement Center (LEC), along with construction of an adjacent new building and remodeling of the existing courthouse building. This presentation focuses on increasing the load bearing capacity of existing foundations within the LEC building in order to support the increased floor loads, column underpinnings and excavation support for below grade construction of a new connecting tunnel and elevator structure within the courthouse building. This was accomplished employing grouted micropiles, resistance and helical piers, and soil nailing. Numerous challenges in both design and installation were encountered and overcome.
Presenter: Greg Norris, Project Manager for Veit Companies, brings over 25 years of diverse and innovative foundation design experience from the private sector and the Army Corps of Engineers.
Fred Scharmota, Project Manager for Veit Companies has spent over 30 years working in geotechnical construction throughout the United States.
Chad Underwood, P.E., P.G., Principal with Engineering Partners International LLC, a geotechnical/structural design firm specializing in foundation and underground engineering.
